76 Citations During 'Operation Hard Hat' Over 4 Hours On Taconic

The enforcement detail focused on the road work zone in Yorktown in an effort to reduce reckless and distracted driving.

YORKTOWN, NY — A safety initiative with the goal of protecting road crews got big results in the Hudson Valley this week.

The New York State Police Troop K Traffic Incident Management Unit, in partnership with the New York State Department of Transportation, conducted an "Operation Hard Hat" enforcement detail on Wednesday, along the Taconic State Parkway in Yorktown.

State police say that during the four-hour detail, troopers issued 76 citations, including 32 for speeding, eight for cell phone use, two for "Move Over" law violations, and other traffic offenses.

NYSP say that Operation Hard Hat "aims to reduce reckless and distracted driving in highway work zones, protecting roadside workers, emergency responders, and motorists."

Drivers are reminded to slow down, move over for stopped vehicles, avoid distractions, and obey posted signs in all work zones.
