Building Upgrades Highlight Yorktown Summer Construction
The high school will also be getting a brand-new digital scoreboard at the turf field that does more than just show scores, officials said.

YORKTOWN, NY — Cafeteria and gymnasium upgrades, a new digital scoreboard and new air conditioning with high-quality filtration systems are among the construction projects that are taking place across Yorktown schools this summer.
Dr. Ron Hattar, superintendent of the Yorktown school district, said at a recent Board of Education meeting, that each of the district's school is experiencing some type of construction work.
The district’s three elementary schools — Brookside, Crompond and Mohansic — are getting new air conditioning in its cafeterias and gymnasiums. A focus was placed on installing efficient systems with highly rated air filters.

Upgrades are also being made to the cafeterias at Crompond and in the high school. At the middle school, the gymnasium is being upgraded.
“I’m looking forward to welcoming our students back in September to a refreshed space,” Hattar said.

The school community will also have a brand-new digital scoreboard at the high school turf field, which is being covered by a grant from the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York. The timeframe for installation is late fall.
“There is some site work required from an electrical and a trenching standpoint to be able to move the scoreboard to a location that’s most visible to the home bleachers,” Hattar said. “However, the scoreboard is the lion’s share of this project, and that was awarded through a grant.”
He equated it to a larger version of the scoreboard that already exists in the high-school gymnasium. In addition to displaying time and score, it also has the ability to simulcast games, events and ceremonies. Messages can also be displayed for the purposes of crowd engagement.
“It’s not just a scoreboard; it’s a fully digital display,” Hattar said. “There are so many different things we can do with this board.”
Earlier this summer, he asked community members to be mindful of the construction as they enter school campuses to use the playgrounds or other facilities.
“As you access any of our campuses, just please keep an eye out for your children and the areas of the campus that they’re accessing,” Hattar said. “Please try to limit your visits to the playground areas, because we’re keeping those playground areas free of construction materials and building materials. We just want to make sure that everyone’s safety is maintained.”
