YORKTOWN, NY — A new proposal could mean a beer tasting room and brewery will be on tap soon in Yorktown.

At the Tuesday night Town Board meeting, Brett McCormack, the owner of the Menagerie Beer Company, requested changes to the town's zoning language to allow his new venture at 1735 Front Street, in Yorktown Heights. His business partner, Tim Czarnetzki, is the co-founder of Foreign Objects Beer Company in Monroe and the Urban Family Brewing Company in Seattle.

McCormack said that the proposed small brewery would mostly sell its product in-house, with some outside sales to local restaurants and stores.

At the meeting, when asked about hours and the effect on residents nearby, McCormack said, "We don't plan to operate as a full-scale liquor bar at all. We don't want that type of crowd. We want to be small, intimate. A community gathering space. It's all about the experience."

The operating days are expected to be Thursday through Sunday. Hours proposed would be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays; and noon to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

The proposed location is currently zoned for light industrial use, with a catering hall in the same complex and a health club formerly operated in the space McCormack seeks to occupy.

No action was taken by the board on the request on Tuesday. The town's staff will work on amending zoning language and a public hearing will be scheduled.
