Fallen Tree in Shrub Oak Causes Power Loss and Closes Road (Update)

A tree in Shrub Oak falls down on wires and two poles, causing power loss in the neighborhood, and closing off East Main Street.

A tree fell on wires and two poles between the John C. Hart Memorial Library and the Shrub Oak United Methodist Church shortly after 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 6 blocking off East Main Street. The tree caused major power outages to 260 homes.

Lake Mohegan Fire Department firefighters responded to the scene and blocked off the area. East Main Street was closed off in both directions between Stoney Street and Frost Road due to debris. It did not open until Wednesday morning, June 9.

Firefighter Paul Lourenco said the tree which caused the most damage in the district would have taken a while to be removed because there were live wires everywhere.
