Greenwood Street Bridge Closed Until Further Notice
The state Department of Transportation (DOT) has flagged it with a 'red flag' because it poses a danger to residents.

The bridge on Greenwood Street in Yorktown will be closed until further notice. The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) has flagged it with a 'red flag,' because it poses a danger to residents.
Yorktown highway superintendent Eric DiBartolo told Patch the bridge was closed Tuesday morning at about 7 a.m. and there is no through traffic.
"There is a section under the road where there is no longer any material under it," he said.

Town officials have for years how to fix the bridge, which DiBartolo said has to be entirely replaced. The temporary solution for now would be to cut off the top of the road and fill it up with concrete, DiBartolo said. He said he hopes to open up the bridge by Friday.
"Residents will be inconvenienced," he said. "But we're working as fast as we can."
