Heat Advisory, Closed Bridge, Yorktown Leo Club Instillation, Middle School Moving Up Ceremony

Here are five things you need to know today, June 20.

1. Heat Advisory Today, Tomorrow

The Westchester County Health Department has issued a heat advisory for today and Thursday. As temperatures rise, residents are advised to avoid strenuous activity, drink plenty of non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated fluids, and take precautions against suffering heat-related illness.

Yorktown High School senior Kristen Burke is a member of the Yorktown Leos Club, a youth volunteer organization. 3. Firemen's Parade and Carnival

The is today at 7 p.m. The parade will begin on Moseman Avenue by St. Patrick's Church in Yorktown and end on Veterans Road. Immediately after the parade, the firemen are kicking off the annual five-day carnival.

4. Greenwood Street Bridge Closed

The bridge on Greenwood Street in Yorktown . The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) has flagged it with a 'red flag,' because it poses a danger to residents. It was closed as of Tuesday morning. 

5. Middle School Moving Up Ceremony

The Grade 8 moving-Up ceremonies will be held outdoors at the middle school on Wednesday, June 20 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be distributed to 8th graders on Wednesday morning at the school. Additional, overflow parking will be available at the , 3477 Kamhi Drive. A shuttle will be available to transport people to and from the middle school.
