K9 Jett Sniffs Out Drugs In Mercedes-Benz On Taconic, 2 Arrested

YORKTOWN, NY — A top dog in law enforcement came away from a traffic stop in Westchester County with more than a bone.
The New York State Police say that on Wednesday, troopers from the Troop K Community Stabilization (CSU) conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 Mercedes-Benz sedan traveling north on the Taconic State Parkway, in the Town of Yorktown, for traffic violations.
The driver was identified as 38-year-old Jack L. Thomas, of Poughkeepsie, and the front-seat passenger was 24-year-old Jiovanni D. Atherton, of the Bronx.

After sniffing the exterior of the Mercedes, New York State Police K9 Jett alerted troopers to the presence of illegal narcotics.
During a search, troopers found a loaded Colt MK IV Series 70 semi-automatic handgun, which had been reported stolen out of Vermont.
Thomas and Atherton were arrested and charged with felony second-degree criminal possession of a weapon (loaded firearm), felony criminal possession of a firearm, and felony fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
State police said that Thomas and Atherton remain in custody awaiting arraignment.
