HUDSON VALLEY, NY — It will be a good idea to keep the rain gear handy in the Hudson Valley through the weekend.

AccuWeather Meteorologist Brandon Buckingham said the chance of some wet snow on Friday only exists in the higher elevations of the most northern part of New York.

A storm will bring rain, though, to New York mainly from Friday afternoon to early Friday night, AccuWeather said. There could also be the potential for patchy fog soon after the rain begins that could linger into Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service is calling for rain likely Friday for the Hudson Valley with temperatures reaching the mid- to upper 40s during the day.

Rain is likely overnight but will clear out for the most part Saturday before returning overnight into Sunday.

Here is the forecast for northern Westchester through the weekend from the National Weather Service:

  • Friday: Rain likely, mainly after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 47. South wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
  • Friday Night: Rain likely, mainly before 10pm, then a slight chance of drizzle after 1am. Areas of fog after 1am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 38. Light southwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
  • Saturday: Areas of fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 54. Calm wind becoming southwest around 6 mph.
  • Saturday Night: A 50 percent chance of rain, mainly after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43. Light and variable wind.
  • Sunday: Rain. Areas of fog before noon. High near 48. Northeast wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Sunday Night: Rain, mainly before midnight, then a chance of showers after 3am. Patchy fog before 9pm. Low around 41. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 48.
  • Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 31.
