YORKTOWN, NY — Deputy Supervisor Ed Lachterman was handily elected to serve as Yorktown’s supervisor in a special election Tuesday.

According to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections, Lachterman received 55 percent of the vote, and Jann Mirchandani received 45 percent of the vote.

Lachterman will serve through December 2025. The two-term became vacant when Supervisor Tom Diana died in January, shortly after being sworn into office.

Lachterman, in a post on Facebook, thanked everyone who supported him throughout the election campaign.

“From those in the community who donated to my fundraisers, the volunteers who came in every day to help, the people who walked through the streets, knocking on doors and spreading the word about the special election,” he said, “and especially to my wife Carol for her quarterbacking my whole campaign while I took care of town business.”

Mirchandani said, while disappointed in the results, she was proud of the campaign she ran and the integrity with which she and her team conducted themselves.

“Democracy very much depends on everyday people getting involved and making their voices heard,” she said on Facebook. “And if this campaign has inspired others to get involved, it’s a win.”

Lachterman, a Republican, has worked in the hospitality industry for more than 40 years. He has served on the Town Board since 2016. He and his wife own two small businesses in Westchester. Lachterman also serves as a board member in the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Business Council of Westchester.

Mirchandani, a Democrat, is a small business owner who has more than 35 years of executive board experience working with numerous nonprofits, including currently serving as council commissioner for the Greater Hudson Valley BSA and on the board of the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce.
