Lakeland Graduate Jumps off Tappan Zee Bridge
Police confirm 19-year-old Shrub Oak woman jumped off the bridge in the early hours of the morning.
A 19-year-old Shrub Oak woman jumped off the Tappan Zee Bridge in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Police confirmed Elizabeth Lynch-Gonzalez, a 2009 Lakeland High School graduate, was a private in the United States Army.
The incident was first reported at 2:38 a.m. after a bridge worker apparently witnessed the woman plunge from the span.

The state police at Tarrytown called marine units, divers, fire departments, as well as the Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members to provide any medical support that may have been needed.
Despite searching for the female for over an hour, the search was called off for the night at about 4:10 a.m.

"They swept the river south all the way to Ardsley," Saracelli said. "They used thermal imaging cameras, but nothing was spotted."
James Van Develde, director of public information at Lakeland School District, said their crisis intervention team will provide grief counseling to current and former students after school from 2 p.m.- 3 p.m.
"It's a tragic situation," he said. "There is no other way to put it."
