Man Who Assaulted Woman At Rehab Violated Protection Order: Police

Yonkers police arrested the 54-year-old on unrelated charges, and alerted Yorktown police that he was in their custody.

YORKTOWN, NY — A Yonkers man is facing a felony charge after, police say, he violated an order of protection by visiting his victim at a rehab center, and then assaulted her.

On Nov. 9, the Yorktown Police Department received a report about a domestic incident from the previous day at an area rehab facility.

Officers met with the accuser and completed an investigation. Investigators say Darren Peterson visited the victim at the rehabilitation facility. The 54-year-old is accused of hitting the victim during an argument. He also allegedly threw food at her, and pushed her food tray on her, according to police.

At the time, he was in violation of an active "stay away" temporary order of protection issued from Yonkers City Court.

The Yorktown police contacted him by phone as he was no longer in the area, but he refused to surrender himself or cooperate, cops said. An arrest warrant was then issued.

On March 6, the Yorktown Police Department was notified by the Yonkers Police Department that Peterson was in their custody on an unrelated charge. Yorktown police officers went to Yonkers and brought Peterson to the Yorktown Police Department where he was arrested and processed for the arrest warrant.

Peterson was arraigned on a felony criminal contempt charge and remanded to the Westchester County Jail. He is due to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court on March 11.
