NJ Man Accused Of Stealing Clothing From Mall Stores

Police also said they found burglar tools in the man's vehicle.

YORKTOWN, NY — A New Jersey man was accused of stealing clothes from stores in the Jefferson Valley Mall.

The Yorktown Police Department said Jeison Olarte Garcia, 32, of Jersey City, New Jersey, was arrested Tuesday and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and possession of burglar tools, misdemeanors.

According to police, around 5:15 p.m. June 22, an officer on routine patrol stopped a car leaving the area of the Jefferson Valley Mall for a traffic violation.

While speaking to Garcia, who was the driver, the officer said he saw several items of clothing in the back seat that still had security tags on them.

An investigation found that several items in the car were stolen from multiple stores in the mall.

After the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Garcia.

On Tuesday, a Westchester County Police officer conducted a traffic stop on the Sprain Brook Parkway for a traffic violation, and a check of Garcia’s name showed an active warrant out of Yorktown. Westchester County Police took him to the Yorktown Police Department for processing.

He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance to appear in Yorktown Justice Court Oct. 10.
