Police: Teens Steal from Sears, Men Solicit Home Repairs Without Permits

Stolen Items from Sears Totalling $400

Two 16-year-old Mahopac residents are facing criminal charges for allegedly stealing clothing from, said.

Police received the call from Sears security personnel on July 11 that two 16-year-old shoplifters were in custody. The teens, whose name police did not release due to their eligibility for youthful offender status, were arrested for stealing merchandise totaling $400.84. The merchandise was recovered by Sears security, police said.

The teens were charged with petty larceny, a misdemeanor. They were later released to a parent and scheduled to appear in on Aug. 14.

Soliciting Home Improvement Repairs

Two men are facing town code violations for allegedly soliciting home improvement repairs in Yorktown for power home remodeling, said. 

The 33-year-old Mahopac man and 19-year-old Tuckahoe resident were arrested on July 23 after police responded to Wharton Drive on a report of the men allegedly going from door to door. The defendants were arrested at the scene and charged with peddling without a license, a Yorktown town code violation.

Both men were released on their own recognizance at the scene and were scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 23.

Peddler Without Permit Gets Arrested

A 23-year-old man from the Bronx is also facing a town code violation in a separate soliciting incident in Yorktown, police said. 

On July 21 a Delaware Road resident reported to police the man had been soliciting business for a power home improvement remodeling company. Police said the man did not have a town peddlers permit and was arrested.

He was scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 7. 

Failure to Appear in Court

A 25-year-old Mahopac man is due in court next month for allegedly failing to appear in court last year, police said. 

After Jason J. Neubrand did not appear in court on Sept. 8, 2011 to answer a disorderly conduct charge, police issued a bench warrant for his arrest. The man was arrested on July 23 at the Putnam County Jail where he was being held on unrelated charges.

Neubrand was later released on $300 bail and is scheduled appear in court on Aug. 23.
