'Reckless' Driver Crashes Vehicle, Charged with Unlicensed Operation

A 20-year-old Cortlandt Manor man, who was allegedly speeding, passing vehicles in an "unsafe manner" and eventually crashing his vehicle, faces several charges, Yorktown police said. 

The defendant, David A. Sutton, was seen to be traveling at a high rate of speed near Mohansic Avenue on June 18, passing several vehicles in an 'unsafe manner' on the left side of the double yellow lines, police said. 

When police officer Nicholson attempted to turn his patrol vehicle around, the defendant continued to allegedly drive at a high rate of speed, crossed the double yellow lines to pass more vehicles and passed through the stop at the intersection ofMohansic Avenue East and Baldwin Road without stopping.

As the vehicle approached Giordano Drive, the driver lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, struck a utility pole and fence, police said. The driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Hudson Valley Hospital Center for treatment. Police said Sutton was operating the motor vehicle while his driver's license was suspended. 

Sutton was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation (misdemeanor), reckless driving (misdemeanor) and several vehicle and traffic law violations.

The man turned himself in on June 19 at about 4:57 p.m. when he was formally arrested. He was later released to a family member and scheduled to appear in court on July 19.
