Spirit of Yorktown Awards; 'Dance for Joy' Special Guest; 'Salute to Lions Day'

1) Spirit of Yorktown Awards
The Yorktown Republican Town Committee is honoring three community leaders who embody the 'Spirit of Yorktown' on Thursday, Aug. 1 at Piatto Grill in Yorktown Heights. Being honored at the event are Anthony Grasso, Douglas Colety and former Assemblyman Bob Castelli. Read more here.
2) Ballerina to 'Dance for Joy' in Mohegan Lake
A talented ballet dancer, who grew up in Yorktown and went to school here, has made a name for herself in the dance world. Nicole Graniero is coming back this summer as a guest teacher at Dance for Joy, a dance studio in Mohegan Lake, where she began her ballet training when she was 10 years old. She will be a teaching at workshops in August. Read more here.
3) Guiding Eyes for the Blind Celebrates 'Salute to Lions Day'
Guiding Eyes for the Blind recently honored Lions Clubs from across the region at the nonprofit’s annual “Salute to Lions Day.” Almost 200 Lions were recognized for their ongoing support. Read more here.
4) State Received Complaint About Barge Lighting Before Accident
The July 26 boating accident that claimed the lives of two people and injured four others has raised questions of lighting and safety around the construction barges around the Tappan Zee Bridge. The state confirmed to Patch that it had received a complaint about the barge lighting before the accident. Read more here.
5) Scattered Showers Expected on Thursday
According to the National Weather Service there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 3 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Temperatures are expected to be in the high near 76.
