Text Scam Touts Yorktown Heights FD T-Shirts
Police said that the fire department never sells shirts or patches to the general public.

YORKTOWN NY — The Yorktown Police Department issued a scam alert to the public because of a text that is going around.
In a Facebook post, the police said to be aware of the latest scam involving the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department.
Text messages offering fire department shirts at $10 off.

"YHVFD does NOT sell t-shirts or patches of any kind to the general public," the police said. "The only current fund drive for them is their annual mailer which is already out."
The annual mailer is printed on official department letterhead and has been out for several weeks.

Text messages are never used to solicit donations, authorities said.
