Vietnam Veteran to Recall Battle of Red Warrior LZ at Event in Somers

The public is invited to the main house at Lasdon Park to hear the accounts of "The Battle of Red Warrior LZ" on Sunday, Aug. 12, at 1 p.m.

The Westchester Military Museum at Lasdon Park in Somers will feature Vietnam veteran Al Zawiski, a White Plains resident, as its event speaker.

Zawiski is the President of Vietnam Veterans of America #49 and will be participating in "Stories From The Front," a program sponsored by Chapter 49 of the VVA in conjunction with the County of Westchester. Zawiski, will discuss his account of the Battle of Red Warrior LZ, involving Company C, 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regt. of the 4th Inf. Division in the Central Highland of the Republic of South Vietnam in the fall of November 1966.

This historic encounter chronicles a series of events that represent the valor of the Red Warrior’s against a much superior NVA enemy force and prompted then President Lyndon Johnson to award this unit the Valorous Unit Citation for their actions as well as other individual citations to the gallant soldiers for their bravery against a hostile enemy force.
