Yorktown Athletic Club Softball coaches were recently able to lead Kirby's Bandits to the Yorktown Parks and Recreation Men's Softball National division championship.
The men – who serve as parent volunteer coaches for the softball, baseball, and basketball teams - defeated the Wolf Pack team on Aug. 12 by the score of 18-6 sweeping the best 2 out of 3 series of the Yorktown Park and Recreation's Men's softball National division Spring/Summer league.
Yorktown Athletic Club coaches Matt Albano, Sean Moran, Lou Salveggi, Tommy Vano, Greg Bennett, Craig Armstrong, Rich Baccari, Frank Pirrone and Rocco Gentile put a lot of time and effort into the programs and still have time to play the game of softball.
"It's a major juggling act doing both but we make it work," Salveggi said. "We have a great bunch of guys on our team. The wives really put up with a lot from us, having such busy schedules and we thank them. It's great because our kids come out and cheer us on and it shows that we know what we are talking about when we coach them"
Salveggi said all of the Yorktown teams they faced this season have great players and they've made new friends and even ran into some old friends they grew up with.
"Hats off the Yorktown Park and Rec for providing us with a quality league," he said.
To round out Kirby's Bandits roster are Yorktown residents, 1st year team captain Peter Morello, Ace pitcher Mike Hilfman, left fielder Todd Cromwell, 2B/ EH Big Mike Lee and RF/SS Tim Nelson.
