Yorktown To Begin Reconstruction, Rehab On Police Plaza
Among the work that will be done is fixing broken steps, replacing deteriorated curbs and adding landscaping.

YORKTOWN, NY — Work to reconstruct the Yorktown Police Plaza is set to begin Monday.
The rehabilitation and beautification work at 2281 Crompond Road will fix broken steps to the entrance of the Yorktown Police Headquarters and the Justice Court. Deteriorated curbs will be replaced, and landscaping will be added.
Additionally, some bricks will be replaced with pavement and handicapped parking will be moved.

Supervisor Tom Diana said this was a project that had been postponed for decades.
“But we are getting it done for safety, the public and our police and court personnel,” he said.

The handicapped parking was at an almost 45-degree angle, making it difficult for those who were mobility impaired.
“That’s one of the major items we’re changing,” Diana said.
The rehabilitation plan for the complex reduces heat-trapping paved surfaces, town officials said. New landscaping will replace a retaining wall and some of the steps to beautify the entrance and create a greener environment.
The Town Board awarded a $582,630 contract to Con-Tech Construction Technology Inc. in June to perform the work. In January, the board voted to rename the police plaza in honor of Police Captain Kenneth Sgroi who died Jan. 2 from a brief illness.
