Yorktown Declares Snow Emergency In Advance Of Storm

The declaration is intended to help the town's highway department in its efforts to clear the roads of snow.

YORKTOWN, NY — The town of Yorktown declared a snow emergency effective 11 p.m. Monday — in advance of the pending snowstorm.

A snow emergency declaration is intended to help the town’s highway department in its efforts to clear the roads of snow and assist the town’s emergency service agencies respond to emergencies.

Yorktown’s town code says that any vehicle parked or abandoned on a public highway during an emergency may be removed by the police or the highway superintendent and stored in a suitable place.

Acting Town Supervisor Ed Lachterman said Yorktown’s residents refrain from operating vehicles on town roads during the period of the snow emergency. If the need arises, driving on town roads will be prohibited during the emergency.

Residents are reminded not to deposit snow onto plowed roadways, which is a violation of town code.
