Arcara’s coworkers described him as a loyal, kind, warm-hearted, funny, hardworking, loving and genuine person.

He was directing traffic as a flagger during the drainage pipe installation when an 88-year-old driver drove through a blocked lane and hit him from behind. Police determined it was an accident.

Yorktown Highway Superintendent Dave Paganelli said the town will continue with fundraisers and setting up scholarships in Arcara’s name.

“This was a tragic loss to us and anyone who knew Jake,” he said. “May he rest in peace and know that although he is gone, he will never be forgotten.”
