Yorktown HS Grad Receives Summa Cum Laude Award
Allyson Pitzel, a 2013 graduate of Yorktown High School, graduated from the University of Alabama with the Summa Cum Laude Honors Award.

From the Pitzel Family: Allyson Pitzel, a member of the Class of 2013, is now a senior at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL where she is majoring in the Multiple Abilities Program. Through the program, she will be certified to teach K-6 elementary and special education.
On April 6th, 2017 the University of Alabama hosted its annual Honors Day. The College of Education announced Pitzel as the recipient of the Summa Cum Laude Honors Award. The Summa Cum Laude Honors Award is given to students who have maintained a GPA of a 4.0 throughout their four years of college. At the University of Alabama, students who receive this honors are given a stole, as well as a red cap to wear on the day of their graduation.
Pitzel also received the College of Education's Most Distinguished Undergraduate Scholar Award. This award is given to the student with the highest cumulative GPA.

After graduation, Pitzel plans on attending the University of Alabama and pursing a master's degree in Special Education through the Multiple Abilities Program. She will also be working as a Graduate Assistant and conducting research through the university's literacy center.
