Yorktown HS Students Win MSG Varsity Awards for Sports Coverage

Winning the award has also secured a $5,000 grant for the high school.

Three students are winners of the 2012 MSG Varsity V-Awards for their coverage of a football game last September. Winning the award has also secured a $5,000 grant for the high school. 

Juniors Andres Perez and Paul Schwedelson and sophomore Lucas Elliason were the winning team in the MSG Varsity V-Awards for their “Full-Game Coverage by a Single Camera” of the Yorktown vs. Mt. Vernon football game. The awards encourage students to capture their schools’ stories and share the positive things students are doing.

MSG Varsity and The New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NY NATAS) announced the winners. Now in its third year, the V-Awards celebrate excellence in student-produced content and inspire creativity among the next generation of broadcast professionals.

The students' work was chosen from more than 2,100 student projects from throughout the tri-region, showcasing the region’s very best in high school media production. Nominees were judged by industry professionals from MSG Varsity and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. 

A $5,000 grant is being awarded to the winning school in each of 10 categories representing various aspects of media production, while $1,000 grants are being awarded for one honorable mention recipient in each category. In addition to Single Camera Coverage, categories include: On-Air Talent, Sports and Non-Sports; Feature, Sports and Non-Sports; Editing; Videography; Play-by-Play/Color Commentator; Original Production - Under 5 Minutes and Over 5 Minutes; Overall Excellence in Media Production.
