Yorktown police are taking the opportunity to remind people to remove valuables from unoccupied vehicles.

If someone is going straight from work for a walk or to the gym for a workout, they should consider placing valuables in the trunk of the car or compartment in the hatch area so that they are not in plain view before they reach their destination.

Also, they should be aware of their surroundings. For example, if someone is seated in a parked vehicle nearby, make a mental note of that, because it could end up helping the police.

The department said the three crimes literally took minutes to happen and whoever did it in all likelihood knew the victims wouldn’t be returning for 20 or 30 minutes at least.

“We’re working hard on behalf of the victims of these thefts and hoping to prevent future incidents by sharing these recommendations with all of our friends once again,” the police department said.

If anyone was at or near the North County Trail parking lot during the aforementioned time frame and has information to share, they should consider giving the police a call at 914-962-4141.
