Buncombe County’s landfill and Henderson County’s Jackson Park site are also turning trees into mulch, giving them a second life and keeping them out of landfills. Local experts say this simple step significantly reduces environmental harm.

2. Answering the call following Hurricane Helene:Local volunteers work t... (thewashingtondailynews.com) — Disaster relief volunteers have been serving massive numbers of hot meals and rebuilding homes in Arden and nearby Asheville neighborhoods after Hurricane Helene’s devastating floods. 3. How A Quiet North Carolina Town Became A Secret Retreat For Artists (takingthekids.com) — Just east of Asheville, Black Mountain has quietly grown into a thriving, affordable haven for working artists who wanted mountain beauty without Asheville’s higher prices and heavier tourism. The town’s walkable downtown, supportive arts organizations, and protective zoning have nurtured studios, music venues, and galleries while preserving local character and keeping creativity rooted in everyday community life.

4. Emissions drop as North Carolina's air quality improves; new report (wlos.com) — From an Asheville dateline, state officials report that North Carolina’s air is the cleanest it’s been in decades, with major pollutants like sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide at record lows. Cleaner power sources, tighter vehicle standards, and efficiency upgrades are credited with the gains, which benefit residents across Asheville and the rest of the state.
