Pedestrian killed after hit by SUV on Gillespie Street in Fayetteville, police say (cbs17.com) — A pedestrian was killed early Wednesday while crossing near Gillespie Street and West Mountain Drive in Fayetteville, where police say an SUV traveling northbound struck the person around 3 a.m. Fayetteville officers are still investigating and have not yet said whether the driver will face any charges.
   

2. What's being built in the Cumberland County area for 2026? (fayobserver.com) — Major construction and renovation projects are reshaping Fayetteville, from a new Methodist University medical school and Market House plaza upgrades to a riverfront park, tennis complex, and McArthur Road sports complex. City and county leaders are also advancing plans for a new E.E. Smith High School solution, an unhoused support center, and major downtown development by Segra Stadium that could significantly change daily life, recreation, and services for residents.

Repeated Methane Alarms Deepen Concerns for Residents Near Cliffdale Landfill (cityviewnc.com) — Families living near Fayetteville’s Cliffdale Landfill are dealing with repeated methane alarm activations, temporary evacuations, and an emergency mitigation system installed in one Leslie Drive home. Fayetteville fire officials and the city’s emergency management coordinator are now closely involved while NCDEQ continues testing and prepares larger methane‑capture systems along the landfill boundary.
   

4. Adam Culbreth (cityviewnc.com) — Fayetteville is mourning the loss of 46-year-old Adam Culbreth, who passed away December 31 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Family and friends can celebrate his life Monday, January 12, 2026, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church on Dundle Road, with arrangements by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home on Ramsey Street.
   

5. Fayetteville protest seeks justice for Minnesota mother killed by ICE agent (fayobserver.com) — Dozens of residents gathered outside Fayetteville City Hall on Thursday to protest ICE and call for justice after Minnesota resident Renee Nicole Good was killed by an immigration agent. Local organizers, including a Fayetteville City Council member and activists, led chants and speeches criticizing federal immigration enforcement while tying the incident to broader concerns about civil rights and community safety.
