Ex-Greensboro police officer's trial set for Monday in fatal on-duty 2021 shooting (wfmynews2.com) — A former Greensboro police officer, Matthew Hamilton, is set for a jury trial Monday, Jan. 12, in Guilford County Superior Court in Greensboro on a manslaughter charge tied to a 2021 on-duty shooting. The case, separate from a civil lawsuit against Hamilton and the City of Greensboro, stems from the fatal shooting of Joseph Lopez during a police response on Cloverdale Drive.
   

2. Nearing 2 years since Greensboro woman Marissa Carmichael went missing: ‘Praying for her safe return' (myfox8.com) — Greensboro police are still actively investigating the disappearance of 27-year-old mother of five Marissa Carmichael, last seen at an Exxon on East Market Street nearly two years ago. Her family in Reidsville is sharing her story, including in an upcoming book on missing North Carolinians, and investigators are urging anyone with information to contact Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers.
   

3. Elon alum performs in the Les Misérables national tour (elon.edu) — A national tour performance of Les Misérables recently brought Elon alum Kenneth Francoeur to the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Greensboro, where local audiences saw him cover leading male roles. Elon music professor Polly Cornelius and several students even went backstage in Greensboro to meet Francoeur and the touring cast, underscoring the city’s growing role on major theater circuits.
   

4. Greensboro man charged in cycling YouTuber impersonation scam (wfmynews2.com) — A Greensboro man is accused of running a yearlong scam by impersonating a popular North Carolina cycling YouTuber to obtain high-end bikes worth more than $24,000. Police say multiple bicycles were shipped to a Greensboro address, where officers recovered about a dozen during a search. The case involves Greensboro police and federal authorities because companies across the country were allegedly targeted.
   

5. Gibsonville couple stuck with broken solar panels after installer goes bankrupt, News 2 gets help (wfmynews2.com) — A Gibsonville couple just east of Greensboro finally got their broken solar panels repaired after the installer went bankrupt and their power bills spiked. With help from a consumer advocate and the financing company, all 24 panels are now working, their bills are dropping, and they’re sharing practical tips for other homeowners if a solar company goes out of business.
