Guilford County Sheriff's Office investigating two separate inmate deaths at Greensboro Detention Center (wfmynews2.com) — Two men have died in separate incidents while in custody at the Greensboro Detention Center, and the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office and medical examiner are investigating both cases. One man died at a hospital after a medical episode, and another was found unresponsive in his cell. Officials say both were being held on separate charges under secured bonds.

Guilford County health officials confirm third rabies case of 2026 (wxii12.com) — Guilford County officials have confirmed a rabid raccoon on Spencer-Dixon Road in Greensboro and a rabid skunk in Colfax, marking the county’s second and third animal rabies cases of 2026. Residents are urged to vaccinate pets, supervise them outdoors, and report strays or animal bites to Animal Control immediately.
   

3. Guilford County's YWCA family shelter faces closure amid funding crisis (wfmynews2.com) — A Greensboro-based YWCA family shelter that serves up to eight families at a time may be forced to close as soon as February because of a severe funding shortfall. With more than 80 families on the waiting list and some rooms already empty, leaders say reduced donations and delayed grant reimbursements threaten one of only three family shelters in Guilford County.
   

4. Nonprofit plans 84-unit affordable apartment complex in Greensboro (wfmynews2.com) — An 84-unit affordable apartment complex is planned for Randleman Road in Greensboro, backed by a $3 million city loan and state support. The project, The Grayson at Randleman Crossing, will target renters earning 30%–80% of area median income and supports Greensboro’s push to add 10,000 new homes in four years.
   

5. Greensboro implements new paid parking rates in downtown surface lots (abc45.com) — Downtown Greensboro drivers will now pay to park in several surface lots as the city raises rates to boost turnover in busy areas. Day and hourly fees are increasing at key Elm Street and government-adjacent lots, with payment shifting to the ParkMobile app. Parking will still be free after 6 p.m. and on weekends.
