38 COVID-19 Cases Reported In Iredell Schools In October

Iredell-Statesville Schools reported 10 COVID-19 cases at nine of its schools last week.

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — At least 38 schools in Iredell County reported cases of COVID-19 during October, according to Iredell-Statesville school district.

During the week of Oct. 26, the school district reported 10 cases at nine of its schools, it said.

At least 293 school district faculty and staff — or about 11 percent — of employees of Iredell-Statesville Schools have been quarantined for COVID-19 since Aug. 10. As of Oct. 31, at least 65 positive COVID-19 cases were confirmed among school district faculty or staff.

The school district reports weekly the number of COVID-19 cases present in its schools, however, does not indicate if the cases are of students, teachers or staff.

Here is the listing of schools reporting positive COVID-19 cases in the past two weeks:

Oct. 19

  • Statesville High School — positive case, close contacts have been notified
  • East Iredell Middle School — positive case, close contacts have been notified
  • Lakeshore Elementary School — positive case, close contacts have been notified
  • Cloverleaf Elementary School — positive case, close contacts have been notified

Oct. 22

  • West Iredell Middle School — positive case, close contacts have been notified

Oct. 23

  • East Iredell Elementary School — positive case, no close contacts
  • East Iredell Middle — positive case, close contacts have been notified

Oct. 26

  • Woodland Heights Elementary School — positive case, close contacts have been notified
  • Sharon Elementary School — positive case, no close contacts
  • Lake Norman High School — positive case, no close contacts
  • Cloverleaf Elementary School — positive case, close contacts have been notified

Oct. 27

  • West Iredell High School — positive case, no close contacts
  • Cloverleaf Elementary — positive case, close contacts have been notified
  • Celeste Henkel Elementary — positive case, close contacts have been notified

Oct. 29

  • Northview School — positive case, no close contacts
  • Scotts Elementary — positive case, close contacts have been notified
  • Lake Norman Elementary — positive case, no close contacts

As of Oct. 30, the number of COVID-19 cases in Iredell County rose to 4,041, an increase of 450 cases reported in the county in the span of two weeks. At least 45 deaths have been attributed to coronavirus in Iredell County since late March.

As of Friday, ICHD said 28 county residents remained hospitalized for COVID-19 illness.

North Carolina reported 278,028 confirmed coronavirus cases in the state Monday, which included 1,226 newly confirmed cases in the state since Sunday, according to data released Nov. 2 by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Iredell County health officials group cases into three regions of the county: North, Central and South. Here's a breakdown of where cases have been confirmed as of 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30:

North Region (zip codes 27020, 27028, 27055, 28625, 28634, 28636, 28660, 28689 and 28678)

  • 804 cases (up from 748 cases reported Oct. 23)

Central Region (zip codes 27013, 28166, 28677)

  • 1,649 cases (up from 1,537 cases reported Oct. 23)

South Region (zip codes 28036, 28115, 28117, 28125)

  • 1,588 cases (up from 1,497 cases reported Oct. 23)

Globally, more than 46.7 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and more than 1.2 million people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Monday. In the United States, more than 9.2 million people have been infected and more than 231,000 people have died from COVID-19.
