7 Iredell County Schools Report COVID-19 Cases In One Week

At least 130 faculty and staff of Iredell-Statesville Schools have been quarantined for COVID-19 since Aug. 10, the school district said.

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — Seven schools in Iredell County reported cases of COVID-19 last week, according to Iredell-Statesville school district.

At least 130 school district faculty and staff — or about 5 percent — of employees of Iredell-Statesville Schools have been quarantined for COVID-19 since Aug. 10, the school district said Friday. As of Sept. 25, at least 36 positive COVID-19 cases were confirmed among school district faculty or staff.

During the week of Sept. 21, seven schools reported positive COVID-19 cases, ISS said. Here is the listing of schools reporting positive COVID-19 cases in the past week:

Sept. 21

  • North Iredell High School — positive case, close contacts have been notified
  • East Iredell Elementary — positive case, close contacts have been notified

The school district reports weekly the number of COVID-19 cases present in its schools, however, does not indicate if the cases are of students, teachers or staff.

As of Friday, the number of COVID-19 cases in Iredell County rose to 3,064, an increase of 156 cases reported in the county in the span of a week. At least 38 deaths have been attributed to coronavirus in Iredell County since late March.

As of Sept. 25, ICHD said 21 county residents remained hospitalized for COVID-19 illness. Out of the total tally of known cases in the county reported Friday, 298 residents remained isolated in their homes and an estimated 2,707 cases were assumed recovered.

North Carolina reported 208,248 confirmed coronavirus cases in the state Monday, which included 868 newly confirmed cases in the state since Sunday, according to data released Sept. 28 by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Iredell County health officials are grouping cases into three regions of the county: North, Central and South. Here's a breakdown of where cases have been confirmed as of 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25:

North Region (zip codes 27020, 27028, 27055, 28625, 28634, 28636, 28660, 28689 and 28678)

  • 621 cases (up from 602 cases reported Sept. 18)

Central Region (zip codes 27013, 28166, 28677)

  • 1,255 cases (up from 1,195 cases reported Sept. 18)

South Region (zip codes 28036, 28115, 28117, 28125)

  • 1,188 cases (up from 1,111 cases reported Sept. 18)

Globally, more than 33 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and more than 998,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Monday. In the United States, more than 7.1 million people have been infected and nearly 205,000 people have died from COVID-19.
