COVID-19 Hospitalizations Increasing In Iredell County: ICHD

As of Friday, 45 Iredell County residents have died from coronavirus-related illness, county health officials said.

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — The weekly average of hospitalizations is increasing in Iredell County, according to county health officials. The news comes as the number of known COVID-19 cases in Iredell County rose by nearly 200 lab-confirmed cases in a week.

As of Friday, Oct. 23, there were 3,782 confirmed cases in Iredell County, an increase of 191 cases since Oct. 16. The county's coronavirus death toll was 45, according to the Iredell County Health Department.

As of Oct. 23, ICHD said 17 county residents remained hospitalized for COVID-19 illness. During the week of Oct. 12, the county reported a weekly average of hospitalizations of 13.6, up from 9.6 the week prior.

As of Sunday, North Carolina reported 260,099 confirmed coronavirus cases, which included 1,807 cases confirmed since Saturday, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Statewide, at least 1,148 were reported hospitalized.

Iredell County health officials group cases into three regions of the county: North, Central and South. Here's a breakdown of where cases were confirmed as of 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23:

North Region (zip codes 27020, 27028, 27055, 28625, 28634, 28636, 28660, 28689 and 28678)

  • 748 cases (up from 715 cases reported Oct. 16)

Central Region (zip codes 27013, 28166, 28677)

  • 1,537 cases (up from 1,459 cases reported Oct. 16)

South Region (zip codes 28036, 28115, 28117, 28125)

  • 1,497 cases (up from 1,417 cases reported Oct. 16)

Globally, more than 43.1 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and more than 1.1 million people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Monday. In the United States, more than 8.6 million people have been infected and more than 225,000 people have died from COVID-19.
