Iredell COVID-19 Update: New Deaths Reported, Tally Nears 3K
The number of known COVID-19 cases in Iredell County increased by 68 since Monday afternoon, as the county's death count rose to 35.
IREDELL COUNTY, NC — The number of COVID-19 cases in Iredell County rose to 2,889 Thursday afternoon, an increase of 68 lab-confirmed cases reported in the county in the span of three days, according the Iredell County Health Department.
As of Sept. 17, at least 35 Iredell County residents had died from coronavirus-related illness, two more than reported Sept. 14.
Iredell County Health Department said that 16 county residents remained hospitalized for COVID-19 illness as of Thursday, three more than reported Monday. Out of the total tally of known cases in the county, 273 residents remained isolated in their homes and an estimated 2,565 cases were assumed recovered.

North Carolina reported 189,576 confirmed coronavirus cases in the state Thursday, which included 1,552 newly confirmed cases, according to data released by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Iredell County health officials are grouping cases into three regions of the county: North, Central and South. Here's a breakdown of where cases have been confirmed as of 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17:
North Region (zip codes 27020, 27028, 27055, 28625, 28634, 28636, 28660, 28689 and 28678)
- 601 cases (up from 578 cases reported Sept. 11)
Central Region (zip codes 27013, 28166, 28677)
- 1,188 cases (up from 1,156 cases reported Sept. 11)
South Region (zip codes 28036, 28115, 28117, 28125)
- 1,100 cases (up from 1,052 cases reported Sept. 11)
Globally, nearly 30 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and more than 942,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Thursday. In the United States, more than 6.6 million people have been infected and more than 197,000 people have died from COVID-19.
