Nearly 200 New COVID-19 Cases Confirmed In Iredell This Week

As of Friday, 11 Iredell County residents remained hospitalized with coronavirus-related illness, county health officials said.

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — The number of known COVID-19 cases in Iredell County rose by 181 lab-confirmed cases in the span of one week, according to county health department data.

The new cases increased the county's tally of known cases to 3,387. The county's coronavirus death toll is 43, according to the Iredell County Health Department.

As of Oct. 9, ICHD said 11 county residents remained hospitalized for COVID-19 illness.

North Carolina reported 227,431 confirmed coronavirus cases in the state Friday, which included 2,034 cases confirmed since Thursday, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Iredell County health officials group cases into three regions of the county: North, Central and South. Here's a breakdown of where cases have been confirmed as of 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9:

North Region (zip codes 27020, 27028, 27055, 28625, 28634, 28636, 28660, 28689 and 28678)

  • 675 cases (up from 646 cases reported Oct. 2)

Central Region (zip codes 27013, 28166, 28677)

  • 1,383 cases (up from 1,307 cases reported Oct. 2)

South Region (zip codes 28036, 28115, 28117, 28125)

  • 1,329 cases (up from 1,253 cases reported Oct. 2)

Globally, more than 36.6 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and more than 1 million people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Friday afternoon. In the United States, more than 7.6 million people have been infected and more than 212,000 people have died from COVID-19.
