Santa's Workshop, Postcards From Santa Planned In Iredell

Here's how your child can receive a postcard from Santa, participate in a fun holiday workshop or get a take-home Christmas craft kit.

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — Christmas is right around the corner, which means there are plenty of fun family-friendly holiday events to look forward to this season. In Iredell County, the parks and recreation team has several events and opportunities planned to help make this year's holiday memorable.

Santa's Workshop, Saturday, Dec. 5 — This four hour drop-off event for children ages 5-10 includes activities such as hand-decorating cookies, making reindeer food, creating Christmas cards and crafts. Hot cocoa will also be served.

"Santa’s Workshop is a drop-off event. Parents- this is a great opportunity to get some Christmas shopping done!" Iredell County Parks and Recreation said.

According to event organizers, children will be dropped off and picked up at the entrance of the Recreation Center. A COVID-19 questionnaire, temperature check and hand sanitization are required prior to entry. Masks are also required for participants, as well as 6-foot social distancing.

The event runs from 1 p.m. through 5 p.m. and will be located at the Iredell County Recretion Center Gym, located at 122 Grannis Lane in Statesville. Registration costs $25 per child and the deadline is Monday, Nov. 30.

Postcards from Santa — Iredell County Parks and Recreation is also arranging for children to receive a postcard from the North Pole this year.

Here's what you need to do if you would like your child to receive a free North Pole postcard:

  • Registrations must be received to Santa’s Station by Monday, November 30th. Late registrations will not be accepted.
  • If you have more than one child, please register all of them on the same receipt so that postcards can be mailed together. Please be sure to register each child, so that Santa has information about each child.
  • No gifts are distributed during this event (this is only a postcard).
  • Postcards are open to ages 3-12. If there is someone older than age 12 who needs to get a postcard, please call our office at 704-832-2326.
  • Registration may be completed here.
  • Postcards will be mailed within three weeks after registration closes.

Christmas Take-Home Craft Kits — ICPR is also offering take home craft kits to help keep the family busy.
Craft kits are $10 each and are appropriate for elementary age children. They must be ordered by Wednesday, Dec. 9, and will be available for pick-up at the Iredell County Recretation Center front desk the week of Dec. 14.

Here's what ICPR says about the kits:

  • Each kit contains 3 craft projects suitable for school age children (or kids-at-heart!)
  • Coloring Pages and Paper Crafts also included
  • Supplies and instructions are included, with the exception of basic art supplies (i.e. scissors, markers and glue)
