Here are the top three stories today in Raleigh:

  1. On Thursday afternoon, the City of Raleigh was presented $35 million in federal funding to design and begin construction on the New Bern Avenue Bus Rapid Transit project. According to the City, local, state, and national leaders gathered at GoRaleigh Station to receive the award. This new bus route would connect the WakeMed Raleigh Campus with New Hope Road and is one of many under the Wake County Transit Plan. The County anticipates a total of $120 million to $140 million in funding coming in this year to finance the plan. (WRAL News)
  2. One person is in the hospital after a Thursday afternoon shooting at the intersection of Raleigh Boulevard and New Bern Avenue. By 2:30 p.m., multiple Raleigh police vehicles had been called in to block off the area and close the intersection to traffic. Officials say two vehicles — a gray sedan that appeared to have a bullet hole in its back windshield and a white sedan that had crashed into a nearby power pole — were on the scene. No further information has been released at this time. (WRAL News)
  3. The City Of Raleigh has announced some upcoming community meetings to help plan for the South Park Heritage Walk and Chavis-Dix Strollway. This project will connect important points in Raleigh, including the South Park Historic District, John Chavis Memorial Park, and Dix Park. There will be two sessions in mid-September: One on Thursday, Sep. 15, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and one on Saturday, Sep. 17, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Registration is encouraged.
