1. CBS 17 helps solve Brier Creek handicap parking issue (cbs17.com) — A Raleigh resident’s complaint about an ADA-violating handicap space at Brier Creek Commons led to a newly painted access aisle after CBS 17 pressed the property manager and contacted a Raleigh City Council member. The fix now gives people using mobility devices safer, legal access to the Petco and nearby services, and the station is inviting other residents to flag similar neighborhood problems.

2. Animate! joins long list of events postponed by Raleigh Convention Center fire (wral.com) — A fire-damaged Raleigh Convention Center has forced the popular Animate! Raleigh convention to move from January to March 13–15, with all existing tickets honored. Organizers estimate the event brings millions in economic impact to Raleigh and have also offered current ticket holders a free pass to their new Nightmare Weekend Raleigh horror convention in October.

3. $5,000 grant received by Raleigh Dream Center from Food Lion (cbs17.com) — A $5,000 Food Lion Feeds grant will help Raleigh Dream Center expand access to nutritious food for people facing houselessness and food insecurity across 34 under-resourced Raleigh-area communities. The nonprofit says the funding will support higher-quality meals and nutrition education during a critical holiday season and beyond.

4. Wake County and Triangle Land Conservancy protect 28 acres of forestland near Wendell (caro.news) — Wake County officials based in Raleigh have secured conservation easements protecting 28 acres of forest and streambank near Wendell, helping expand a larger open-space network. The move supports future greenway connections between Turnipseed Nature Preserve and Triangle Land Conservancy’s Williamson Preserve, advancing the county’s goal of preserving 1,000 acres of green space by 2029.

5. Raleigh man facing felony charge in crash that killed 76-year-old pedestrian (newsobserver.com) — A 71-year-old Raleigh resident is facing a felony death by motor vehicle charge after an allegedly impaired December 1 crash in south Raleigh that led to a 76-year-old pedestrian’s death at WakeMed Raleigh.
