Here are the top three stories in Raleigh today:

  1. As North Carolina's population increases, so does its need for housing. To that end, the original Raleigh Char-Grill on Hillsborough will soon be demolished to make room for new high-rise apartments. But don't worry: Char-Grill isn't going away for good. This longstanding establishment, which has been serving customers in its downtown location since 1959, will be rebuilt on the first floor of the planned building. At this time, the area is still being rezoned, so there is no official demolition date. (Spectrum News)
  2. The Jaycee Park Recycling Center in Raleigh wants the community to know: Not everything residents throw in their recycling bins is actually recyclable. While "illegal dumping" of non-recyclable items has been an ongoing problem for years, Jaycee Park has seen everything from plastic bags and containers full of food to mattresses, electronics, and even construction materials. "The people working at the recycling sorting centers have to pull it out, and then the companies that own those sorting centers pay to send it to the landfill," said Bianca Howard, the outreach marketing supervisor for Wake County Solid Waste Management. Howard said in a statement that local facilities are looking into better staff training and improved signage to help reduce illegal dumping. (CBS17.com)
  3. An employee of Rick's Cabaret, a Raleigh strip club located at 3210 Yonkers Road, has been arrested after an overnight shooting outside the club. Police responded to the scene around 2:30 a.m. on Friday, where they learned that a "disturbance" between one of the club's dancers and a bouncer led to shots being fired into the establishment. The suspect, 21-year-old Aalera Shakiya, was reportedly charged with assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a weapon into occupied property. (WRAL News)
