- Dogs helping humans help other dogs! This past weekend, the Beagle Recovery And Tracking Team (BRATT) nonprofit, which is a group of volunteers and their dogs who work to track down other dogs when they get lost, spent time searching for puppies, Ken and Barbie, who escaped from their foster home’s yard near the Village at Beacon Hill neighborhood. The 8-week-old puppies are still at large. If you have any information about their whereabouts, email info@tribeagles.org. (CBS17.com)
- You won't want to stop and smell this flower! The corpse flower is one of the biggest and stinkiest flowers and it is expected to bloom this week at North Carolina State University. According to WTVD, "The rare titan arum is commonly known as the corpse flower due to the odor of its flower. Many people describe it as smelling like rotting flesh. The corpse flower is located at the Ruby C. McSwain Education Center next to the Cascade Fountain. The JC Raulston Arboretum will offer extended hours for public viewing during the bloom phase from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Once the corpse flower blooms its smell will only last about 24 hours." (WTVD-TV)
- A Silver Alert was issued on June 19 at 5:23 p.m. by the North Carolina Center for Missing Persons for 61-year-old Alexander Smith. He is 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 170 pounds and was reportedly last seen wearing all black and a fedora in the area of Flint Ridge Place. He is believed to be suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's disease. Anyone with information should call T.C. Goss at the Raleigh Police Department at 984-220-6937. The Raleigh Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in finding Smith. (nccmp.ncdps.gov)
