• Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools votes to adopt modified academic calendar (wfmynews2.com) — Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools has approved a modified 2026–27 calendar, starting classes August 10 and ending May 21, with 178 instructional days. The plan keeps a full week of spring break, ends the first semester before winter break, and preserves the number of staff workdays that survey respondents said felt “just right” for families and employees.

• Chris Paul to Retire: LeBron Honors ‘Point God' with Heartfelt Tribute (visiontimes.com) — Winston-Salem native Chris Paul has announced he’ll retire at the end of this NBA season, closing an era for one of basketball’s greatest point guards. Now with the Los Angeles Clippers, Paul’s decorated career includes 12 All-Star selections and widespread respect, highlighted by LeBron James’ emotional “Point God” tribute explaining just how special Paul’s on-court leadership has been.
   

• Report: Reduce crime with more cops on the streets (carolinajournal.com) — Winston-Salem is singled out among the top U.S. cities for crime in a new John Locke Foundation report urging North Carolina to fund more intensive community policing. The study argues that hiring more officers, raising pay, and improving training could especially help high-crime, low-income neighborhoods. It also suggests using online sports betting tax revenue to support local departments that can’t afford expanded staffing.
