Once upon a time, before football, Vikings came to Vinland and discovered Minnesota. They crossed the ocean and rivers in great ships bearing dragon heads. When they came to Minnesota they are reported as saying “this is the land of beauty, great lakes, and polar plunges”! Although there is little proof (no selfies) rumor has it that some of the Vikings would jump into icy water just for fun.
Now days, modern day Vikings, like Tom Mortenson, former President of the Scandinavian Trade Association, member of the Red River Danes, and Sons of Norway, DL Vikingland Lodge 1-495 will attempt his tenth plunge.
No stranger to icy challenges, Viking Mortenson was one of those back in 2014 who did the ALS ice bucket challenge pouring of a bucket of ice water over his head to raise money for ALS.

This year, the Viking from MacDill AFB will fly up to Detroit Lakes to jump again at the 26th Annual Polar Fest Plunge. Saturday, February 26, 2022.
