  1. On Tuesday January 10 at the Avon Lake Public Library a presentation called "Environmentally Speaking: Recycle Right!" will be held at 7 p.m. Do you recycle regularly, but wonder whether you are recycling correctly? Learn more about the dos and don'ts of recycling from a representative from the Lorain County Solid Waste Management District. Representatives from Good Neighbor Thrift Shop will also talk about keeping household and personal items out of the landfill. This program is part of a year-long environmental series, presented in partnership with the Avon Lake Public Library and Avon Lake’s Environmental Affairs Advisory Board (EAAB), that addresses the environmental concerns of Avon Lake's residents expressed via the EAAB survey. Each session focuses on a different topic presented by experts who will educate, as well as provide tools and resources for making an impact in our community. (Avon Lake.org)
  2. According to the Avon December Newsletter, "the winter season is upon us and our plows are ready to go. The Avon Service Department is responsible for plowing over 250 lane miles per snow event. During the winter months, Avon is divided into six zones, with one truck assigned to each zone to ensure all main roads are salted and cleared at the same time. Crews start with the main streets then work their way onto the secondary streets, which ultimately leads them into the residential subdivisions. The plow trucks will throw some snow into driveway aprons and at mailboxes, especially during heavy snowfalls. This is not intentional or preventable. Residents are responsible to clear the snow from their driveway aprons and away from their mailboxes. We recommend that residents pile their snow to the left side of their drive (looking from the street). This will minimize the amount of snow deposited in your driveway when the city trucks clear the roadway. For more information about snow and ice removal, please visit the city’s website at cityofavon.com, and search under Service Department." (City of Avon)
