Armed Man Surrenders, Stand-Off Ends Peacefully In Avon: Police

Police briefly surrounded a home on Stoney Ridge Road on Monday night.

AVON, OH — A standoff between Avon police and an armed man ended peacefully on Monday night.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., callers reported that an armed man was inside a home on Stoney Ridge Road. The man pointed a gun at one of the residents, according to a police report obtained by Patch.

After police created a perimeter around the home, officers were able to make contact with the armed man, a 30-year-old from Avon, the police department said in a statement.

Officers asked the armed man to leave the home and surrender and he did so, police said.

According to police, the man was detained by officers and now faces charges for inducing panic and having a weapon under disability.

The 30-year-old is being held at Lorain County Jail. He could make his first court appearance in Avon Lake Municipal Court on Thursday.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said.
