Avon Lake Bicyclist Dies After Hit-And-Run; Driver Arrested: PD

AVON LAKE, OH — A bicyclist struck in a hit-and-run crash on Lake Road this week died Friday, police said. The name of the 66-year-old victim was withheld as police notified his family. The driver, Sharan A. Carr, 64, of Sheffield Lake, was intoxicated at the time of the crash and charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, police announced Friday.

The crash happened Thursday at about 9:45 p.m. near the Sheffield Lake border. Police said the bicyclist was found on the sidewalk with serious injuries. He was medflighted to Metro Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Carr was arrested later Thursday night in her hometown after an officer pulled her over, police said. She was charged with failure to stop after a crash, failure to use reasonable control and operating a vehicle under the influence.

"We would ... like to express our sincere heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family members for their tragic loss," Avon Lake Police Sgt. Reed Reikowski said in a statement.
