  1. In the immortal words of Elsa and Anna, "Do you want to build a snowman? It doesn't have to be a snowman." Well, actually it does have to be a snowman if you want to submit it in the Snowman contest. According to cleveland.com, "Residents can now put their building skills to the test and enter the Avon Lake Parks and Recreation Department’s annual snowman contest. Build a snowman in your yard (or in a city park) by Feb. 27, then take a picture of your masterpiece and submit it to the Avon Lake Parks and Recreation office. The contest is open to Avon Lake residents. Submit entries online via email to the Avon Lake Parks and Recreation office at alrec@avonlake.org or in person at the Recreation Department, 150 Avon Belden Road. (cleveland.com)
  2. Dog lovers take note! According to cleveland.com, "dog training presentation: Learn “Dog Training Secrets” [will be held] at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Knights of Columbus Ragan Hall, 1783 Moore Road, from Mike Homan, a veteran-medic-nurse, owner of “Sit Means Sit” in Amherst. He will explain how easily dogs of all kinds can be trained, including those with behavior problems like: leash pulling; aggression; play biting and jumping. RSVP by Jan. 16 to rudybreglia@gmail.com.   3. According to cleveland.com, "The Avon Democratic Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Avon Senior Center, 36786 Detroit Road.   • Avon Lake Library: On Monday, Janury 16th at 1 p.m.Nancy Haas, a resident of Avon and member of the Avon Lake Historical Society will give a presentation on "Civil War Nursing." Nancy's career has been in nursing, and she has collected some very interesting historical information on the role women played in nursing during the Civil War.
