Avon’s 'Mighty Eagle' Band Preview Show is Friday, Aug. 23

The Avon High School "Mighty Eagle" Marching Band will be hosting its first marching show on Friday, Aug. 23 at 7:30 p.m.

The show, at Avon High School’s football stadium, provides an opportunity for the students to perform the music and drill which they have been preparing during their pre-season rehearsals and allows community members a chance to come out and watch the band in a non-halftime atmosphere.

Band director Bryan Hoersten said the Avon High School “Mighty Eagle” Marching Band has been working hard for the past month in preparation for their upcoming season.

The 82 members of the group will be performing at all football games and at several OMEA competitions this fall including Cloverleaf, Sandusky Perkins and Brunswick.

“In addition, the band will travel to the University of Toledo to compete against bands from around the country in the Bands of America Regional Competition in September,” Hoersten said. “We look forward to performing for the community at our Band Preview Show this Friday at the Avon High School football stadium.”

The event is free to the public, but a free will donation will be accepted to help offset the cost of the band's spring trip to Florida.

The event will also help out with this year's SOUPer Bowl, a friendly cross-tracks rivalry with Avon Lake to see which town can collect the most non-perishable donations for those in need in Avon and Avon Lake.

Items will be brought to the SOUPer Bowl, which benefits Community Resource Services, at the Aug. 29 Avon-Avon Lake football game in Avon.
