Here are the top three stories in Avon-Avon Lake today:

1. It's the middle of winter, but its already time to start thinking about baseball season. According to a recent Facebook on the Avon Ohio Little League page, Avon Little League and the Avon High School Baseball program will run the 2023 Winter Baseball Training Program for eight weeks starting Sunday, January 8 and ending March 5. There will not be a training session on Super Bowl Sunday (February 12). Training time slots are between 5-8 p.m. based on age, ability level, and available space (either 5:00pm - 6:25pm or 6:30pm - 8:00pm). All training sessions will be held at the T3 Performance facility located at 1965 Recreation Lane in Avon in partnership with the Avon High School Baseball program. The program is open to all players who are entering the Rookie, Minors, Majors, and Thurman Munson Jr. (League age 13 only) baseball divisions in 2023. Registration will close December 16. 3. If you've been looking to add a four-legged ball of love and affection to your household, start with these Avon-Avon Lake area shelters for a pet up for adoption. Over 6 million pets are surrendered or taken in each year by adoption facilities nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. However, only half of all shelter animals — about 3.2 million — are adopted each year, according to ASPCA data. This means millions of animals — some right here in the Avon-Avon Lake area — are still waiting for their forever homes.(Avon-Avon Lake Patch)
