Meet the New Learwood Principal Aug. 12

 A new school year at Learwood Middle School means a new principal, and students and parents can meet him Aug. 12.

Vishtasp (pronounced “Vis-Tas”) Nuggud officially took the helm Aug. 1, replacing Jane Ramsay, who retired after 30 years in education, including 13 years at Learwood. He is the former assistant high school principal at Westlake High School. 

“The children will always be first,” Nuggud said. “Decisions made will always be in the best interest of the students.”

Nuggud comes with significant experience in the education field. He taught 10th – 12th graders at Valley Forge High School in Parma where he also coached baseball and football.

Nuggud taught sciences, including physics and math.

He moved over to Normandy High School for four years as the Deputy Principal. Both schools are part of the Parma City Schools.

“I can remember hearing about Learwood when I was at Normandy,” Vishtasp said of the Avon Lake school’s reputation.

For the last three years Nuggud held the position of assistant principal of Westlake High School.

While the school will have a new principal, one major event will remain: The Veterans Day Breakfast held each November.

“We’ll definitely be continuing that,” Nuggud said. “It’s important for students to recognize veterans.”

Nuggud has been spending the past month acclimating to the district and meeting personnel and students.

“I cannot stress how excited I am to be part of such a great community and school district,” Nuggud said.

He also thanks family members

“I would like to thank my parents, grandparents for their support,” Nuggud said. “After retiring as an accountant, my grandpa taught for several. When he heard of my appointment as the building principal at Learwood, he was extremely excited.  I would say even more so than when my mom became a dentist.”

He also thanked his girlfriend Carrie.

“We are both excited about becoming part of the Avon Lake community in the near future,” he said. 

Meet Principal Nuggud on Aug. 12

A “Meet the Principal” event will be held on Monday, Aug. 12, from 11 a.m.  –  1 p.m. and from 6 p.m. -7:30 p.m.  at Learwood Middle School. Parents, students and community members are welcome to stop by and meet Nuggud.
