More Than 1,000 Expected at May 25 Eagle Run
For second year, race will start at Avon High School.
The streets of Avon will be filled with runners and walkers for the Kaiser Permanente 13th Annual Eagle Run on Saturday, May 25.
More than 1,000 runners and walkers are anticipated to participate in this year’s event held Memorial Day Weekend.
For the second consecutive year, the race will start at Avon High School. Runners and walkers can begin registering at 7:15 a.m. Registration is now open online.

"We anticipate a record turnout for this years Eagle Run,” Chris Carroll, a spokesperson for the race said. “Over the last 13 years, as the City of Avon has grown so has the participation in the Eagle Run. This has become one of the premier community events and is a significant fund raiser for Avon Schools. The race offers something for everyone. Come out Saturday morning and join us. It is a great way to start the holiday weekend."
Options for runners include participating in either the 5-mile or 5K events. Walkers can enjoy the 5K Walk. Both the 5-mile and 5K Run/Walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the 1 Mile Kids’ Fun Run (ages 13 & under) starts at 10 a.m.

Consistent with the past 12 years, half of the proceeds of the Kaiser Permanente 2013 Avon Eagle Run will go to the Avon Schools Educational Endowment Fund. The donated money is invested, and the interest from the money is awarded as grants to fund special projects developed by teachers. The other half of the proceeds is divided between the Avon YMCA and Avon Lake-based Community Resource Services. Over the past 11 years more than $125,000 has been generated from the race.
"We are excited about hosting the Eagle Run again this year. The committee has worked hard to organize a great community event which proceeds will benefit the Avon Schools Educational Endowment Fund,, the YMCA and other local charities," Mike Laub, Avon Schools Superintendent, said.
This is the third year Kaiser Permanente has sponsored the run. Audra Kessler, Kaiser Permanente’s Director of Marketing said the organization is “committed to improving the total health of the communities we serve.”
Race day registration fees for the 5-Mile and 5K Run/Walk is $25 and 1-Mile Kids’ Fun Run is $20 and includes hat, ticket, & T-shirt). The 1-Mile Kids Fun Run (ages 13 & under) is $10 and also includes ticket and T-shirt). Cash awards will be provided to 5-Mile Run top three male and female runners overall. All participants in the 1-Mile Kids Fun Run receive an award.
