North Coast Community Woodshop Making Progress
Interested in "woodworking made easy?" Contact the organizers and help out this Saturday.
The North Coast Community Woodshop (NCCW) is continuing its efforts to bring the first "community workshop" to Avon Lake. Plans are in the works to convert part of the old Avon Lake Community Theater into a workshop that will include work benches and wood working machines.
It took volunteers just over one hour to clear the floor making way for
work benches and wood working machines. The group has committed to working every Saturday at the same time, 9:30 a.m. to keep moving the process along.
The group held its first working meeting on Saturday, April 20, at its future site at 33501 Lake Rd. Avon Lake.

"We are all very excited and anxious to get their wood shop up and running," Gene Fox, one of the group's organizers said. The all-volunteer group is also using wood from the defunct Avon Lake Indoor Skate Park to construct workbenches.
An opening date has not yet been set.

"The next steps will be to lay the footprint for the work tables and machines. Then we will begin the process of building the worktables, installing the machines and running the electrical conduit to the machines," Fox said. "There is still a lot of paperwork to finish up as we apply for our 501c3, non-profit status with the IRS and obtain insurance"
Lorain resident Bob McDonald, who donated machinery, discussed the concept last year.
“What we want to do is, take a space about 7,500-sq.-ft. and turn it into a place where people can come in and do wood crafting,” McDonald said in January. “They can come in, make frames, furniture.”
The group will again meet this Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Anyone interested in participating or becoming a member may contact NCCW at admin@nccwoodshop.org or call Fox at 440-930-5390.
