  1. The Avon Lake City Schools District has embarked on the search for a new superintendent and it wants to hear from the students. According to the Avon Lake City Schools Facebook page, "as the district embarks on the search for a new Superintendent, we have a series of Focus Group scheduled (details below). Our students are invited to be part of the Focus Group process and there is a survey created for students to complete. Please take a moment to complete the survey.   2. Police officers receive autism sensory kits for their cruisers. According to WJW Fox 8, the Hussman Institute for Autism Director of Outreach Elizabeth Benevides said it has distributed kits to 20 different law enforcement agencies in Ohio: Elyria Police, Brunswick Police, Avon Police, Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Macedonia Police. It also offers a two-hour training class to officers. “We just ask that along with that the officers watch a short training video about what’s in the kit before they put them in their patrol car, so they know how to use them,” Benevides said."   3. Celebrating the school's most successful year to date, the Avon High School Art Department is excited to announce student artists' work is included in the Regional Scholastic Art Show! According to a Facebook post, "student artists from 22 high schools from Lorain, Huron and Erie counties submitted over 1,600 works of art to be judged and 650 works were selected for the show. AHS had 73 works selected! Ten works received Gold Key awards, 23 works received Silver Key awards and 40 received Honorable Mention. Gold Key works will digitally move forward for national judging. Avon Middle School also has artwork on display; several students received awards. Congrats! Silver Key: Celeste Gorski (grade Honorable Mentions: Millicent Schwartz (grade 7), Reagan Fennell (grade 7), Madelyn Kitchen (grade , and Brooke Heinrich (grade . All works are currently on display in the Stocker Art Gallery at LCCC thru Feb. 16.
